Alvin Franklin Bradford was married twice. His first marriage was to Sarah Spooner on the 21 June 1852. After she passed away, he married Sarah A.B. Butts on 4 April 1875. Sarah was also a widow. She was first married to Oliver Slocum. Alvin was a veteran of the Civil War. He fought for the Union beginning in May of 1862. He enlisted as a private at the age of 34 into Co. D. 27th Infantry Reg. of Mass. He then reenlisted into Co. D. of the 27th Inf. Reg. on the 1st of Jan 1864. While at Southwest Creek, NC he was taken prisoner on the 8th of March in 1865 and was sent to Libby Prison in Richmond, Va. At the time of his capture he was wounded and eventually exchanged on the 29th of March 1865. He received a disability discharge from Co. D. 27th Inf. Reg on 27th July 1865. He is noted as serving with "distinguished service".
