There is confusion surrounding his date of birth. The tombstone reads "1886 - 1905". John Henry Hicks' book on the Watauga Valley Hicks clan, gives his date of birth as 22 Apr 1890.

Jordan was the 10th of Gordan Andrew and Rachel Adelaid (Oaks) Hicks' 13 children. He is buried in the old Hicks family cemetery on top of the ridge above the family homestead, on Big Horse Creek Road, Cranberry Twp., Avery County, NC.
