Decorated Veteran,
Dies Last Evening
Bernard J. Beckwith, 53, of
Taylor, a life resident of the
Cortland County area and a
decorated veteran of World War
II, died Wednesday night at
Veterans' Hospital, Syracuse.
Mr. Beckwith was born Dec.
13.1921, in Greene, son of Edgar
and Ruth Crosley Beckwith. He
was employed as a truck driver
by Economy Paving Co. of Cortland
until illness forced his
retirement.
Mr. Beckwith served with the
Army in Europe where he was
awarded the Bronze Star and
Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a
member of American Legion
Post 596 in Cincinnatus and the
Cincinnatus Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife of 26
years, the former Veronica
Kellogg of Taylor; four sons,
Alan of Pitcher and Kary, Chris
and Jon Beckwith. all of Taylor;
two daughters, Mrs. Janie Lenox
of Indiantown, Fla.. and Mrs. Jo
Ann Maricle of Cincinnatus; his
mother, Mrs. Ruth Lidell of Lake
Wales, Fla.; one brother. Rev.
Arnold Beckwith of Crestline.
Ohio; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday
at 2 p.m. at Black Funeral
Home. Cincinnatus. The Rev.
Edward Caster of Taylor Wesleyan
Methodist Church will
officiate. Interment will be in
Taylor Cemetery in the Spring.
Friends may call Friday from
7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
American Legion services will
be held at the funeral home
Friday at 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may
be made to the American Cancer
Society.
