Tularosa Man Fatally Injured in Automobile Accident

A distressing accident which extinquished the life of James Henley, Jr., well known and universally popular resident of Tularosa, occurred last Thursday evening on the highway when the car he was driving, a Ford V-8, struck an obstruction, turned over and was thrown many feet. The victim of the accident had very obligingly come from Tularosa down to a point near the La Luz highway turnout, about six miles above Alamogordo, to bring gasoline to a stalled truck, and was returning home. He was driving pretty fast, hurrying back when, in crossing the box culvert two miles this side of Tulrosa, from some cause or other, possibly a tire going out, the car swerved and struck the right hand coping and catapulted into the adjacent field. The car jumped about 50 feet, before it struck, then another 50 or 60 feet, landing a complete wreck. Mr. Henley was imprisoned in the wrecked car, rendered unconscious by the terrific impact and received fatal injuries. He was rescued from this distressing situation and taken to Dr. Robinson's office in Tularosa here he recovered consciousness and lingered until 6pm Friday, when he passed away.

The funeral services were held at 9am Sunday at Tularosa Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Mr. Walker, of Sixteen Springs Canyon, and Rev. C. A. Clark, pastor of the church. Burial was in Tularosa Cemetery.

He was united in marriage with Viola Posey, daughter Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Posey, November 20, 1924.

Brothers and sisters: William (Wid) S. Henley, Edward Henley, Guy Henley and Reuben Henley of Tularosa; Mrs. Naomi Williams of Los Angeles, Mrs. Berta Hill of Pecos, Texas, Mrs. Edith Massey of Tularosa.
