Joseph Baca Tonso, an employee of Fibreboard Corp. in Antioch for 40 years, died Sunday after a brief illness at Delta Memorial Hospital in Antioch. He was 81.

The native of Coalgate, Okla., lived in Pittsburg before moving to Antioch 74 years ago. He graduated from Riverside High School in Antioch in 1932. He was a member of Fibreboard Printer Club, Sons of Italy of Antioch, United Paperworker International Union and Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Antioch. He retired as a printer in 1972.

He is survived by his daughter, Jeannette Poteet of Folsom; son, Anthony R. Tonso of Loomis; sisters, Martina Torta of Gattanara, Italy, Mary Anderson and Emily Contreras, both of Antioch, Frances Davi of Pittsburg; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His wife of 38 years, Edith Marie Tonso, died in 1974.

Services 1 p.m. today at Higgins Funeral Chapel in Antioch, with visitation from noon to 1 p.m. at the chapel. Entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Antioch. Memorial gifts to National Kidney Foundation of Northern California, 856 Stanton, Burlingame, CA 94010.
