Vera Dare Swanner Forehand, 92, of Waynesboro went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in Fishersville. She was the daughter of the late William Jesse and Lydia Holt Swanner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Philip W. Forehand, her husband of 65 years; a grandson, Jeff Amos; a son-in-law, Don Amos; sisters, Lilly Rogerson, Estelle Johnson, Nellie Shipp and Pauline Lewis; and brothers, W.J. "Bill," Ishmael and Floyd Swanner. She is survived by her three children, one daughter, Barbara Forehand Amos of McDonough, Ga., and two sons, Phillip R. Forehand and his wife, Judy, of Waynesboro and E. Franklin Forehand and his wife, Joyce, of Williamsburg; one sister, Lianae Brothers of Richmond; two brothers, Clarence Swanner and his wife, Brenda, of Virginia Beach and Henry Swanner and his wife, Joyce, formerly of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, Mark Amos and his wife, Kelly, Leigh Anne Hagwood and her husband, Geff, Joel Forehand and his wife, Lisa, J.D. and Doug Forehand and Jeremy Forehand and his wife, Erin; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a housewife and mother, and over the years, "mother" to lots of children and neighbors. Mrs. Forehand was a member of West Waynesboro Church of Christ.
