Robert Lee Job was born on November 9, 1866 just east of Cloverdale, Indiana to Conrad and Sarah (Christenberry) Job. Robert, who was known as "Lee", married Etta May McKamey on April 10, 1890, a daughter of neighboring James Francis Bell and Elizabeth (Wilson) McKamey.

Lee and Etta had eight children: William Curtis, Tillman Ellis, Elmer Ellsworth, Ralph Lee, Jesse Jay, Blanche Esther, and Vernice Glen. Their first born son, Earl, died at birth.

Lee was a farmer, hunter, and beekeeper. He resided his whole life a few miles east of Cloverdale near Higgins Creek, where in 1932 he owned 120 acres.
