Harold D. Likkel, 84, of Lewiston and formerly of Grangeville, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at Lewiston. Harold was born in Platte, S.D., May 1, 1917, to Henry and Jenny Likkel. He came to Grangeville in 1935 and worked for various ranchers until he bought his own ranch. He met his wife Margaret while working for his father-in-law Ted Long. He married Margaret April 26, 1941. Subsequently, he became associated with the Jordan Motor Company in Grangeville. In approximately 1960, Harold founded the Likkel Insurance Agency. He continued in the insurance business until he retired in 1989. He married Lorraine Beisel of Lacy, Wash., Sept. 22, 1990. They enjoyed wintering in Arizona and moved to Lewiston in 1994 where he resided until his death. In the early 1950s, Harold was a radio personality on a local talk radio show called the "Happy Boys." He was a member of Mount Idaho Masonic Lodge No. 9 AF & AM, and in January he was awarded his 50-year pin. He was past president of the Idaho Mutual Insurance Agents Association and was a member of the Orchards Baptist Church in Lewiston. Survivors include his wife Lorraine of Lewiston; a son, Gary Likkel of Grangeville and Gary's son Cody; a son, Tom Likkel of Hermiston, Ore., and Tom's daughter Cassey; a daughter, Jeanie Tolcacher of Prosser, Wash., her husband Ray and children Desiree, Jake and Ava; a daughter, Bonnie Bentz of Lewiston, her husband Darrell and their children Keri, Bryan, Cammy and Angie; grandchildren Tasha and Tara of Boise; stepchildren Joann and Bob, David and Diane, Della and Howard, and Donna and Jack; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ted, in 1976; his first wife, Margaret, in 1984; his brothers Garrett, Marlin, Bill and Lowell; and a sister, Myrtle Gortsema. Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Blackmer Funeral Home at Grangeville. A funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Blackmer Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Niemeyer of Orchards Baptist Church officiating, along with fraternal rites by Mount Idaho Lodge No. 9 AF & AM. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery at Grangeville. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital in Spokane.
