ADAMS, Norma Jean Stout, 76, of West Alexander, Pa., died at 6:24 p.m. Sunday, March 17. 2013, in the Trinity West Hospital, Steubenville, Ohio, after being in failing health for the past several years.
She was born May 16, 1936, in West Alexander, a daughter of the late Kenneth Leland and Loretta Alice Maloy Stout.
Mrs. Adams had resided in the Fort Myers and Sebring, Fla., areas from 1992 until returning to West Alexander in 2009.
She was a member of the Grace Brethren Church in Sebring, Fla., but had been attending the West Alexander Presbyterian Church since returning to the area.
Mrs. Adams was a 1954 graduate of the former West Alexander High School and later graduated from the former Elliott Business College in Wheeling.
She was also a member of the West Alexander American Legion Post 656 Auxiliary.
Mrs. Adams was a former swimming instructor in the Erie, Pa., and Sebring areas and also enjoyed playing the card game of 500 with her many friends, and always found a reason to laugh.
On Dec. 26, 1968, she married Donald Franklin Adams, who died Jan. 26, 2005.
Surviving are a daughter, Denise Lombardi of Follansbee, W.Va., and a son, Jeffrey, husband of Robin Hankins Adams of Glen Dale, W.Va.; a sister, Nancy Gashel and a brother, Ronald (Gus), husband of Donna Stout, both of West Alexander; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the West Alexander Presbyterian Church, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2013, with the Rev. Keith Hornung officiating. Interment will follow in the West Alexander Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the West Alexander American Legion Post 656 Auxiliary, c/o Ruth Frye, 987 Old Brick Road, West Alexander, PA 15376.
The West Alexander American Legion Post 656 Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service in the church at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, Pa.
