Lyle "Butch" Barnes, 77, of Fairfield, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2003, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

He was born January 11, 1926, in Mount Pleasant to Earl O. and Clara Pickard Barnes. He married Ruth M. Schafer Jan. 15, 1947, in Fairfield.

He spent most of his life in Fairfield, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1943. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was part-owner of B & G Service where he worked as a self-employed mechanic. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He also belonged to the Fairfield Elks Lodge No. 1192, VFW No. 2271, and American Legion Post No. 47.

Surviving are his wife, and two sons, Rick Barnes and Tim Barnes; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Nellie Klein and Luanna "Stubby" Klein.

He was proceeded in death by a sister, Eleanor Widmer; and three brothers Gene Barnes, Harold Barnes and Dale Barnes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the Behner Funeral home in Fairfield with the Rev. Jan Burris-Hintze officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
