Jesse D. Christiansen, 85, of Great Bend, died Sept. 21 at Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center, Topeka. He was born Nov. 20, 1923, in Barton County, the son of Ralph A. and Elsie Ewing Christiansen. He married Imogene Nolte on Dec. 18, 1951, at Raton, N.M. He was a retired oilfield construction worker for Tregallas, AC Truck and Niedens Construction. A lifetime resident of Barton County, he was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Second Armored Amphibious Battalion.
Mr. Christiansen was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; four daughters, Mary Ulrich and husband Wayne of Russell, Joan Klein of Topeka, Dana Cheney and husband Greg of Shawnee and Kim Christiansen and husband Stan Light of Topeka; a brother, Gerald Christiansen of Hoisington; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters and one granddaughter.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Sheldon officiating. A private family inurnment will occur at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. Military honors will be conducted by a U.S. Marine Corps honor guard. There will be no visitation, as cremation is taking place.
