O. J. White Obituary Published January 3, 2010:

O. J. White was born in Sabinal, Texas on July 14, 1927 to Ottis J. and Era Alley White.

After graduation from Uvalde High School he joined the U. S. Navy serving as a motor machinist on the Landing Ship Tank 697 in World War II. After discharge he returned to Uvalde and worked for Humble Oil Company as a seismograph operator. He surveyed and titled land throughout the state and was knowledgeable of geography and history of Texas. He started his own business, White Tile Company, in 1952 and for half a century installed ceramic tile in homes, offices and public buildings throughout South West Texas.

He was a 63-year member of American Legion Chapter 26 of Uvalde, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Del Rio and Uvalde, and a lifetime member of the Del Rio Elks Lodge 837 where he held numerous offices over the years. He served on the building committee for the lodge at its current location aiding in construction, installing the tile, and planting and nurturing the many pecan trees landscaping the grounds.

He was known for great bar-b-q, often cooking for charities and benefits for those in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Evelyn and a brother, Arville White.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Bonnie Bolner (Joey); son, Jeff White (Glenna); grandchildren, Shay, Lisa, Brandy, Jess, Amanda and Charlie and great-grandchildren, Casey, George, Mary Claire, Aidan, Judah, Koy, and Hopelyn; sister-in-law, Ann White; nieces, Brenda and Denise; numerous cousins and the staff of the Del Rio Nursing Home.

Visitation will be held at G. W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, January 3, 2010.

Graveside services will be on Monday at 2:00 PM, January 4, 2010 at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Uvalde, Texas.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Del Rio Hospice or Del Rio Nursing Home Family Council.
