George Maverick BUNKER was born 1908 in Canada. George`s father was in the Insurance business and moved the family frequently. He was a troubleshooter for the home office and had a talent for fixing low performing agencies. This talent must have passed to George.
George graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1931 and took his first job with Campbell`s Soup Co. at 38cents/hour, switched to the Wilson meat-packing co. as an engineer in 1934. After rising to Chief Engineer, he left to join Chicago`s A.T.Kearney. George finally wound up at faltering Trailmobile where he was able to turn the business around and more than double the sales and stock value.
In 1952 he was asked to perform the same recovery on the ailing Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Co. in Middleriver. Md.
Knowing nothing of Aerospace he was installed by the Banking interests as President and CEO. He is credited with redirecting the company from aircraft to a divirsified line of technologically advanced products.
