Josephine Wilhelmine Nagel, known as "Feney", was born in Tuckfork, Kentucky, the daughter of Heinrich Wilhelm and Josephine Gropengieszer Nagel, who were both born in Germany. Feney came to Kansas with her parents when she was a very young girl. She attended schools in Mitchell, Osborne and Linn Counties in Kansas before her family moved to the Kansas City area. She completed the eighth grade at the Evangelical Lutheran School in Kansas City, Kansas.

Feney married Jacob Herman Gaiser on June 29, 1904. They had three daughters, Lillian, Marie and Bessie. They lived on various farms in Leavenworth County, including Lansing and Delaware City. Jake was a truck farmer who sold produce at the State Avenue Market in Kansas City, Kansas, and to many individuals and grocers in Leavenworth.

Jake and Feney celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1954. Feney passed away a few days later on July 14, 1954.
