Opal Lucille Belveal Black

January 28, 1915 ~ November 11, 2008 Born January 28, 1915 to John Wesley and Mary Frances Bullis Belveal in Hugo Colorado. The fifth of six children.
She died November 11, 2008 after spending 13 years at the Four Corners Care Center in Blanding, UT.
Opal married Ward Herman Park on January 3, 1933. They lived in Colorado and California and were later divorced.
She married Chauncey Elmer Black in Sydney, Nebraska on February 25, 1943. They were sealed in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints June 1, 1950. They moved to Blanding from Colorado in 1949.
Opal joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1944 and remained an active and faithful member the rest of her life, including, being Relief Society President twice.
She served two missions; one with Chauncey to the Southwest Indian mission and the second with Newell to the Cody Wyoming/Montana Mission.
She became involved in the community of Blanding, she was the Democratic Chairwoman for San Juan County.
She worked as the school lunch supervisor for the elementary schools. She served as the police matron while assisting Chauncey in his police work.
After Chauncey died in 1972, she met then married Newell Checketts August 2, 1974. Within a few years, they moved to Santaquin, UT. After Newell's death Opal returned to Blanding.
Opal is survived by four children: Gerald Dean (Maureen) Black of Fruita, CO; Carl Clifton (Suzanne) Black of Anchorage, AK; Janis Kaye (Max) Tea of Ithaca, NY; and Benjamin John (Glenna) Black of Blanding, UT; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
