CORBETT, James A., 81, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at Columbus Hospice House, Columbus, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2007 at 2:00 PM EDT with the Reverend Ricky Ward and Reverend Tommy Carstens officiating according to Vance Memorial Chapel, 3738 Hwy 431 N, Phenix City, Alabama. Private interment will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mr. Corbett was born on June 12, 1926 in Opelika, Alabama. He is preceded in death by parents John (Jac) A. Corbett and Rosa Letlow Corbett and his first wife, Alice Hallmark Corbett;a sister, Christina Kelly; a stepdaughter, Anita Phillips. He was retired from the United States Postal Service for 30 years and also formally worked at Wells Dairies. He was a member of Whiterock Freewill Baptist Church. He was a Woodmen of the World. He served in World War II in Japan and the Philippines. He is survived by: His wife, Mary Chance Corbett of Phenix City, AL; two sons, Danny Corbett and wife Debbie of Pike Road- Phenix City, AL, Mike Corbett and wife Jan of Phenix City, AL; one stepdaughter, Rita Amerson and husband Johnny of Phenix City, AL; one granddaughter, Dana Corbett; seven grandsons, Chance Corbett, Heath Corbett, Brandon Corbett, Clay Corbett, Zeb Corbett, Caleb Corbett and Wesley Corbett; three step-granddaughters, Dee Williams, Lisa Amerson and Marlea Jeffries; two step-grandsons, Chance Stanford and Jimmy Stanford. Heartfelt gratitude to the Doctors and staff of Columbus Hospice House. Flowers will be accepted and those wishing may make contributions to Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31909.
