Douglas moved to Bonita Springs in 1996 from Seattle, Wash., where he was a successful real estate broker and involved in the family development corporation.
He was born in Grand Island, Douglas was an avid athlete, having been a member of his high school wrestling team, captain of his football team, and had pitched a "no hit" Little League baseball game.
He especially loved animals, was a horseman, and had a real passion for cooking.
Douglas is survived by his mother, Lorene (Sam) Buhrman-Chiancola; a daughter, Elizabeth Storey; three sons, Douglas Buhrman Jr., Theodore Buhrman and Dennis Buhrman; a brother, Dennis (Katy) Buhrman; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford F. Buhrman; a brother, David Buhrman; and his loving dog, Princess.
A memorial ceremony celebrating Douglas' life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 at Fuller Funeral Home, 1625 Pine Ridge Rd., Naples, Fla.
Mass of Christian burial and inurnment will be with the extended Buhrman family at the family plot in St. Libory.
