John's Mom, Johnie, cut her arm while working in her husband's butcher shop. She got blood poisoning and died the day after John's fifteenth birthday. The household became disfunctional. John no longer had a home with his own bed and three meals a day.

By 1920, John had married Belle Elizabeth BOSTON Miller. I wonder if the picture attached was taken on his wedding day. The shirt has gold buttons. John was so proud of those buttons. He was proud of his gold tooth, too.

John's household in the 1920 U.S. Census in Lafayette County, Missouri, included their daughter, Clara Belle; Belle Elizabeth's son by a former marriage, Thomas Miller; her mother, Mary Adams; her brother, Jim Boston as well as John's youngest sister, Hazel.

John Bass Dean Jr. was born into the family in September of 1920. In January of 1923, little Jason was born. Jason was still a tiny baby when Dad John went off to prison in Jefferson City, Missouri, for--robbing banks. Yup! John Bass Dean (who was known as "Porter" in Jeff City) blazed the trail for Bonnie and Clyde.

The Kansas City Star printed articles and pictures of John (who robbed two banks in Lexington, Missouri, one day along with four other men) and his shoot em outs with the Police.

Many stories could be written about John. I called him "Grandpa Dean." He was a wonderful Grandpa. He took his grandbabies on rides in his truck and sang songs with them. He took them to Kiddie Land and bought them candy cotton and five-centers. He took them to see the doggie's tail wag on the pet store sign.

Grandpa Dean always loved me and I will always love him. Janet
