Korean War veteran
Lawrence E. Barry, 80, of Waterloo, died Monday, July 23, at Allen Memorial Hospital.
He was born February 27, 1932 in Waterloo, son of Edward and Elizabeth Kuhn Barry. He married Martha Wall August 20, 1956 in Clarksville, Tenn.
Larry farmed in the Fairbank and Sumner area and then was employed with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, which later became the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring from there. Later he was a bus driver with the Waterloo Community Schools. He was a US army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Martha; three sons, William and Michael S. (Rose) of Waterloo and Richard of Oelwein; three daughters, Teresa L. (Randall) Meyer of Waverly, Angela (Ted) Gamerdinger and Barbara (Brett) Walters of Waterloo; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, James (Donna) of Rice Lake, Wis. and Lee (Janet) of Janesville, Minn. and three sisters, Elaine Barry of Clarence, Rose Tapia of Baltimore, Md. and Kathleen (Wayne) Busch of Ankeny.
Preceded in death by an infant sister.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale Amvets Post 31, Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Fayette.
Public visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church on Friday.
Larry loved his wife, his family and his two cats. Above all, he loved God.
