Lorenzo Plumley, Alonzo's son, oprned Plumley's Mercantile in 1899 on Byron's main street. Over the years, two fires threatened to put him out of business, but Lorenzo simply ordered new stock and reopened each time. The store stocked grocery items, sewing notions, tools, hardware and clothing and even had a post office.
