ARLINGTON E. DIETZ, 35
Veteran of US Navy, Dies Suddenly of Heart Attack
Tragedy brought an end to activities at the local Slate Belt Bowling Center last evening when Arlinton E. Dietz, of 415 Market Street was stricken with a heart attack shortly before 10 o'clock and succumbed before medical assistance could be rendered.
The popular local bowler engaging in a social game with friends, had seated himself at the scoring bench to chart the progress of play after taking his turn on the alleys when the attack occured. Persons in the vicinity including Miss Lottie Milunee and Miss Marion Finkbeiner, registered nurses on the premises at the time, immediatly went to his aid without avail and he was pronounced dead by Dr. N> M> Romano, local physician who responded to the emergency call for help.
The death of the athlete who had completed the fourth frame of the game with a strike, as fact which may have created excitement contributing to the attack, cast a pall of gloom over the center and the patrons quickly heeded the request to clear the building.
County Coroner W. E. Bachman, reached by telephone, waived personal investigation after learning the circumstances and the body was removed to a local funeral home, while the proprietors of the bowling center closed the establishment for the balance of the evening.
Age 35, the deceased was born in Bangor and a resident of the vicinity most of his life. A veteran of World War II, having served as MoMM 1-C with U Navy, he was honorably discharged October 7, 1945, after serving since June 26, 1943. He spent 17 months of duty overseas.
