David "Elmer" Shearrer, was born in Logan Twp., of Wayne County, MO, a son of John Lee Shearrer & Elizabeth (Hickman).
A bit of History on Elmer's Shearrer family:
Elmer also moved away from where he was born, he & his family moved to TX after the 1910 Census in Wayne Co, MO.
Elmer's father, John Lee Shearrer was born near Vienna in Johnson Co, IL., probably on his grandfather David Sherrer's (sic)farm. His grandfather David moved to IL about 1810, from Guilford Co, NC to Nashville, TN then to Shawneetown in Illinois, where he settled, he died in Dec of 1846, intestate and James, grandfather of Elmer, was appointed the administrator of David Sherrer's estate, being the youngest & last one living at his father's home. But James resigned this position and moved his family with all their animals to the Northeast of AR., (1850 found them in Independence County, AR) where their daughter Susan Frances, called "Frankie," was born. After one winter there they moved northeast again settling in Logan Twp., in Wayne Co, MO., when Elmer's father, John was about 13-14 yrs of age, this was also where his Uncle Joel F. the younger son, was born, in 1852.
Their surname was originally spelled as Scherrer. But is spelled several ways on deeds and census records. Their emigrating ancestor was Jacob Daniel Scherrer, who was born c1730 in Ottweiler, Germany. Jacob's ship, the "Richard & Mary" docked in Philidelphia, September 26, 1752, for a time Jacob Daniel lived in Delaware, as his oldest son, Jacob Jr, served in the Rev. War from Delaware. Eventually, Jacob Daniel, his wife, Hannah Sophie (Dick) with their family located in Guilford Co, NC, where Jacob died in 1895.
By the time of the Civil War, John Lee,father of Elmer was already a member of the 68th Regiment Enrolled Missouri Militia, under Capt. James E. Davis, (who later became his bro-in-law) when he enlisted in the Union Army and was mustered in on the 29th of Aug 1864 at Pilot Knob, into Co. (A) of the 47th Regiment of MO Infantry under Capt. James S. McMurtry. He was mustered out 28th Mar 1865 at Benton Barracks.
