Harriett was the second child born to Clara Maud Guymon and Gilbert Oliver Helphenstine. She was married to Joseph Vaughn Allen in 1946. Finally in 1962 she was blessed with the birth of their daughter, Shirley Anne. Harriett was a F/C Bookkeeper for Kellogg Supply for 20 years. She then worked for California Newspaper Service Bureau in Accounts Receivable/Customer Service. She worked until July 1996 when her beloved little sister, Shirley Mae fell and broke her hip just 3 days before the birth of her grandson, Michael. He was the apple of her eye. She retired as she was unsure what care her sister would need. Her sister would leave this world just 1 month after falling and breaking her hip. She moved to San Diego with her daughter, grandson and son-in-law, Justin just 9 months before her death. She spent time reading, having fun with Justin and Michael, before Shirley would come home from work. She passed away after being hospitalized the day after Thanksgiving in 2003. She went home to be with her, mom, dad, sister, grandparents and other family that she dearly missed.
