Bailey was a descendant of an American Revolution War (1775-1783) Patriot. He and 21 other Patriot-descendants met in Zanesville, OH in May 1896 to form a local Chapter of the newly formed (11 Apr 1889) Ohio Society Sons of the American Revolution (OHSSAR). The Chapter name chosen, Rufus Putnam, honored Brigadier General Rufus Putnam builder of fortifications, including West Point, NY, and leader of the first Ohio settlement Marietta. Research by RP Compatriot Daniel Beebe of Nashport, OH, recovered that Bailey was a Founding member under leadership of Bernard Van Horne Schultz of the new OHSSAR. RP Chapter commends Beebe for his valuable work recovering our origins. Entered: Rev. Dr. Ronny W. Dower, Acting Chaplain Rufus Putnam Chapter OHSSAR, Zanesville (Muskingum Co.) OH.
