Francis Conrad Warnick Rorer, 96, of 41 Vandeventer avenue, Princeton, died Saturday, June 18 at Merwick, a unit of Princeton Hospital.
Mr. Rorer was born in Southampton, Pa., on December 7, 1863. In his earlier years he was a steam locomotive engineer on the Penn Railroad. He was the engineer of the locomotive of the train that took Woodrow Wilson from Princeton to Washington for his first inauguration as president of the United States.
He became a funeral director in New Jersey in 1914 at the age of 51. In that year he purchased the business of the late Lorraine Blackwell at 10 Front street, Hopewell, and continued the practice 33 years. In 1947 Thurland B. Farr, the present proprietor, purchased Mr. Rorer's interests.
Mr. Rorer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hopewell, Hopewell Lodge No. 155 F. & A. M., Hopewell Chapter O. E. S. No. 112, Crescent Temple Shrine of Trenton, Princeton Shrine Club, and N. J. Funeral Directors Association.
He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Sara Hoffman and Mrs. Anna Smith, both of Princeton, four grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. John H. Ginter, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Hopewell on Wednesday morning, June 22, at the Farr Funeral Home, 10 Front street, Hopewell. Hopewell Lodge No. 155 F. & A. M. conducted services the previous evening. Interment was in Brainerd Cemetery, Cranbury.
