VOLZ, WILLIAM E. 1924-2011 Bill went to walk with the Lord on April 1, 2011 after a long battle with dementia. He was born on March 16, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He arrived with his family in San Diego at the age of two where he has since resided. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theatre during World War II. After leaving the Navy, he graduated from San Diego State College. Bill then began a long and rewarding career with San Diego City Schools. He started as a math/science teacher at Wilson Junior High. After obtaining his masters degree, he served at several schools in administration until he retired as Vice Principal in 1979 from Mira Mesa High School. Bill enjoyed an active retirement playing golf almost daily, gardening and most importantly, perfecting his skills as an Indian carver and painter. He was in demand as a speaker and demonstrator in the city schools lecture program and gem show circuit. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Helen Volz; brother Frederick Volz; sister Virginia Jensen; Terry, his beloved wife of almost 60 years; and Sean Scenna, grandson. He was loved and will be missed by his surviving brother and sisters; his daughters and their spouses, Christine and Phil Scenna of San Diego, and Kathleen and Richard Ferguson of Canyon Lake, TX; his grandchildren Phil Scenna and Tammy Rees, Laureen Owen, Jim and Bill Ferguson; and his great-grandchildren Michelle and Cameron Rees, Kory and Judy Owen, and Sierrah Ferguson.
