My loving father was put in an orphanage along with his siblings because the mother couldn't afford them. Dad was on his own since twelve.
Ray was the 2nd oldest of 5 children. He ran away from the orphanage at age 12 and followed the circus across the states. Since he was too young to work, Ray worked for the circus in exchange for food and shelter. In 1943 he met my mom and got married in 1944. Ray was the father of two. A son who was a veteran of Vietnam, and a daughter.
My dad never served in any war because he was blind in his left eye as a result of an severe eye injury at age 5.
Ray was the son of Andrew Jackson Mitchell and Janie Fairfax (Mitchell) Young. Ray lost his father when he was six years old. His mother died in 1981.
Ray's youngest brother, Leonard, drown on his 13th birthday in 1933. Ray's older brother, Albert, died at the age of 85 in 2001.
