Reverend Lex H. Blankenship, III October 9, 1943 - April 7, 2006 Lex Blankenship, of Midwest City, lost his very brief battle with cancer at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, Illinois and went home to be with Jesus. Lex was born to Lex H. Jr. & Winifred Blankenship on October 9, 1943 in Oklahoma City. His father was KIA in WWII on May 31, 1944. Lex received the Silver Star and Purple Heart posthumously for his father. His mother was remarried to George Carson in 1946. Lex made a profession of faith in Christ at age five while living in California. He was later baptized in the University Baptist Church, Shawnee, Oklahoma at age 7. He heard God's call and surrendered to full-time Christian Service at Pleasantview Baptist Church, Derby, Kansas at age 14. Lex studied Music Education at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee and later graduated from University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. Lex met and married Linda Ree Troyer on May 27, 1966. There were three children born to them over then next 16 years. That marriage ended in divorce in 1982. He married his current wife of 18 years, Susan Kay Miller, on August 11, 1988. Susan had one child, Ashley Miller from her previous marriage. Marc Daniel was born to Lex and Susan on July 16, 1992. Lex was ordained to the gospel ministry in March of 1985. He served in various capacities in 14 churches across Oklahoma and Kansas for over 40 years. In addition to his Christian Ministry, Lex worked at the Department of Human Services, Eisenhour funeral homes, and Sam's Wholesale Club. Lex is survived by his mother Winifred (Wini) Kitchens Carson of Midwest City; His wife of 18 years Susan Blankenship; and his five children: Troy & Cheryl Blankenship of Cardiff, Wales; Kristi & Nathan Stogsdill of Kansas City; Paul and Amy Blankenship of Del City; Ashley Miller and her companion Philip Williams of Edmond; and Marc Daniel Blankenship of the home. He is also survived by 10 grand children and numerous other friends and relatives. Lex had four passions in life: baseball, music, his family and his Jesus. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at: Country Estates Baptist Church, 1000 S. Midwest Blvd., Midwest City, OK 73110. The church phone is 405-732-2201. The interment will follow at the Arlington Cemetery. The body will lie in state at: Ford Funeral Service, 305 S. Sooner Road, Midwest City, OK 73110. The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, you can send gifts to Country Estates Baptist Church. They will be collected and put into a trust fund for Daniel's future educational needs.
