Franz emigrated to the U.S. in 1864 with his wife and four children. He petioned the court to become a citizen in Buffalo, New York on March 24. 1866. He took the oath of allegiance in Buffalo on October 18, 1870. Franz was a weaver in Saxony as were his father and grandfather before him. He later became a carpenter/joiner in Buffalo. He became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Buffalo in 1874. He resided at "Mulberry near Virginia" in 1867 and at 781 Sycamore St. in 1891. Sometime after 1900 he moved to Clinton St. in Gardenville, New York. Franz died in Gardenville on April 16, 1915 at the age of 76. He was interred in St. Johns (Lutheran) Cemetery at Gardenville.
