Mona Mae Barnes Wilson, 90, of Etowah, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Etowah Health Care.

A native of Alabama, she moved with her parents and brothers in 1922 to Etowah where she attended school. Prior to 1985, she assisted with the daily needs of several elderly Etowah citizens in their homes. From 1985 to the time of her death she was a resident of Etowah Health Care and in 1987 she was awarded Who's Who in Tennessee Nursing Homes. She enjoyed attending church, flower gardening, reading the Bible and Biblical history, and visiting her friends and neighbors - she never knew a stranger.

A daughter of the late John C. and Jennie Wheeler Barnes, she was a former part-time employee of Barnes Manufacturing Co., and was of the Christian faith.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Barnes of Etowah and Carl Barnes of Smyrna, Ga.; and her former husband, Lester C. Wilson.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Richmond and Bren Wilson of Riceville and Carroll "C.H." and Pam Wilson of Athens; one stepdaughter and spouse, Barbara and Joe Marcus of Leesburg, Fla.; one granddaughter and spouse, Toni and J.D. Hobbs of Rossville, Ga.; one grandson, Mark N. Wilson of Key West, Fla.; three stepgrandsons, David Price, Steve Bromley and Shawn Bromley; and two nephews, Mickey Lee Barnes and Larry Barnes.

Funeral services were 8 p.m. Saturday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Chism officiating. Burial was 2 p.m. Sunday in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
