Vernon Elmer Billings was born in Lubbock, Texas on September 5,1927. He was the youngest of three children born to Elmer Samuel Billings and Susan Aletha Smead. He married Mary West in June, 1945 and they had three children. The family moved to California in 1955 and Southern California became their home. Vernon, in his later years suffered several strokes and was disabled until his death on Father's Day, June 15, 1997 where he was living with his daughter and her family in Albuquerque, N.M. He was buried in the Fairview Memorial Cemetery in that city.
