B. Olive Akers, 87, a homemaker who previously farmed in Limon, died June 16, 1994, at a local hospital.
Two memorial services will be held Monday: the first at 10 a.m. at Highland Park Baptist Church, 2315 N. Circle Drive; and the second at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Limon. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Pershing Memorial Cemetery in Limon. The Revs. Kurt Brenner and Ben Dickerson will officiate.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Evergreen Funeral Home, Fountain and Union boulevards.
Mrs. Akers was born April 10, 1907, in May, Okla., to William Edmund and Laura Alice (Craig) Barrett.
She was married Feb. 17, 1925, in May to David Lloyd Akers, who died in 1978.
She is survived by two sons, David Donald of Los Gatos, Calif., and Harold Barrett of Palmer, Alaska; two daughters, Barbara Jean Poorman of Colorado Springs and Donna Marie Wonder of Thornton; a sister, Gladys Lee of Pikeville, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She had a daughter, Geraldine Louise Akers Smiley, who is deceased.
Mrs. Akers had farmed near Limon from 1925 to 1967, lived in Limon from 1967 to 1980 and lived in Colorado Springs since 1980.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Limon, where she had served as a deaconess, a choir member and a member of the building committee. After moving to Colorado Springs, she was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church.
In the mid-1950s, Mrs. Akers was awarded the Colorado state "Master Homemaker Award" by a worldwide organization.
