George was the youngest of the eight children of Jahile Franklin Billups 1865-1944 and Sarah Jane Musser 1867-1913. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp 439 Fighter Squadron at the rank of Sargent during WW II from 6 May 1942 to 27 September 1946. His unit served in England, and dropped paratroopers from the 101st Airbourne at the Battle of Normandy
