Joseph E. DeGraffenried son of Nathaniel Elvington DeGraffenried and Nancy T. Anderson.
Joseph was born in Missouri, likely McDonald County. Little is actually known of his life. He likely spent time in Grayson County, Texas near his father for a time. He was married twice.
By 1904 he was living in Oklahoma near Gowen.
Joseph and his wife, Rosetta May Thomas DeGraffenried, died together in a flu epidemic according to family tradition. We know they were both dead by 1912 oldest son Lafayette became the guardian for his siblings. Sadly, Lafayette was killed after only a year of being guardian.
This boulder has only his name chiseled on it but the cement slab erected later says "Joe DeGraffenried Family" so presumably Rosetta May Thomas DeGraffenried is also here. His son Lafayette is here.
