MRS. JOHN WHITTINGTON

Mrs. Alice Smith Whittington, died Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. at the Whittington home, 240 S. Galloway St. Suffering from a rheumatic heart condition, Mrs. Whittington had been in failing health two years and critically ill only an hour before her death.

A native Xenian, Mrs. Whittington was born Nov. 18, 1908, the daughter of Harry U. and Pearl Hillard Smith, Piqua, who survive. She was married previously to Walter Grooms who preceded her in death in 1934. Her second marriage took place in 1945.

Besides her husband and her parents, she leaves a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Morgan, Xenia; two sons, Raymond Grooms, Xenia and Harold Grooms, Springfield; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Willis and Miss Wilma Smith, both of Piqua, and Mrs. Helen Cline, Spring Valley; four brothers, Raymond and Lester Smith, Xenia; Donald Smith, Piqua and Edward Smith, Columbus, and her maternal grandfather, Cassius Hillard, Dayton.

Rev. S. Andrew Hutchison will be in charge of services at Nagley Funeral Home Friday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday afternoon and evening.
