Jean Badoil, well known here, died on Monday night after an illness of five weeks. Mr Badoil was born near Lyons, France, on 14 Oct 1883.
He was educated at the College of Argeutiere in France, where he made excellent studies in science and letters. In 1902 Mr Badoil received his degree of A. B. from the Academy of Belles Lettres, of Lyons, France.
In September, 1902, he came to America with his uncle, Rev. Etienne Badoil, pastor of St Peter Church, Reserve, Louisiana, to continue his studies for the priesthood. A few weeks after his arrival in this country he entered the Seminary on Napoleon Avenue [St Louis Seminary], completing his course in philosophy last June. While pursuing his studies, in April of 1904 he was awarded a first place gold medal in the annual competition of L'Athenee Louisianais, the subject being "Rostand and His Plays".
His funeral took place on Tuesday, 20 Sep 1904 at 5:30 pm. The ceremony was performed by Rev Father Plasmans of St Joseph, assisted by Rev Father H George of Jefferson College, Rev Father Ignace of St John the Baptist, Rev Father Phages of St Joseph and Rev Father Seve of Vacherie. After a few chosen words, Rev Father Plasmans praised the high qualities of the deceased. The pallbearers were E P Feucht, Stanislaus Feucht, Henry Maurin, Oscar Ory, Jos Ory and James Montegut.
