Irene Leonice Hicks b. Jericho, Queens, New York (town not available on drop-down). She was known to her family as "Auntie Hicks/Auntie Irene" (never married), and a "Sweet Soul". She took care of all of the babies/children in the family. She reared her Nephew, Charles LeRoy "Roy" Mellen (Father of Sherald Virginia); Roy was the first child of her Sister, Edna Browning HICKS Mellen. The family story as told by Irene's Niece, Sherald Virginia MELLEN Handwork to her daughters, Judy and Janet (FAG ID#47018985), is that Irene was "dropped as a baby", thereby dislocating her left shoulder. It did not heal properly, causing that area to be deformed. Everyone loved "Auntie Hicks".
