Sam was born on June 4, 1938 to parents Richard Bass and Alma Minchew Bass. He married Mary Lou Martin on August 8, 1953 and they made their home in Denton. They settled in Ennis in 1954.
He was a member of the Northside Baptist Church. He was a partner in B&C Parts and B&C Truck Shop.
Survivors include his daughter Sharon Ashby and her husband David of Houston, granddaughter Kellee Ashby of Boston, MA., and grandson Justin Ashby of Austin,TX.; his business partners and in-laws, Rex & Joyce Carter, additional in laws Faye Allen & Mel Rimmer, Dorothy & Keith Keeney, Bonnie & Mohammed Pishanidar, Roy & Betty Martin, Joe Martin, all of Ennis. And a host of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard and Marlin and sister Sarah.
He will be put to rest in Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis, alongside his wife Mary, who preceded him in death in November 2007, and son, Mike Bass, who preceded him in death in July 1968.
Services will be he held in Keever's Chapel on Tuesday July, 29 at 10:00am. Visitation will be held from 7-9pm on Monday July 28, 2008. Interment will be in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of JE Keever Mortuary.
