William Pickens Lowry, or Pickens as he was called, was born in Enid, Mississippi in 1881 to Ike and Lottie Lowry. His parents moved to Gulfport, Mississippi where Pickens was raised with his sister and three brothers.
Pickens was by trade a salesman and for most of his life a bachelor. He lived all over Mississippi and Louisiana and other places, but in 1904 he married twenty year old Lorado Bryan in Gulfport, Mississippi. By 1910 she convinced him to settle down and join her and her sisters in Richmond, Texas where Pickens worked as a sales clerk. Unfortunately, Lorado died of an appendectomy operation in 1915. Pickens stayed in Richmond a few more years, but then he moved away and became a traveling salesman and lived in boarding houses in Wichita, Texas in 1920 and in Akron, Ohio in 1930. In 1942 at age 60 he registered for the draft while living in Baltimore, Maryland and listed no wife or relative as next of kin. In 1954 he died at the age of 73 in Gulfport, Mississippi and is buried with his parents and other relatives in Evergreen Cemetery.
