Birth: Feb. 2, 1863
Death: Oct. 10, 1936

J.J. Burnett, prominent attorney and a former judge of the probate court, died about 10 o'clock Saturday night at his home at 364 Marion avenue of a heart attack.
Members of the family said Judge Burnett was stricken while listening to an address by President Roosevelt on the radio and died about an hour later.
Judge Burnett was born in this county on February 3, 1863, the son of the late John Pinckney and Frances Pearson Burnett. He was one of 12 children.
Judge Burnett was married twice. His first wife was Miss Annie Lelia Carlisle, daughter of his law preceptor, John W. Carlisle, whom he married on October 15, 1890. She died on June 25, 1928.
On October 3, 1931, Judge Burnett married Mrs. C. M. Spears of Florence, who before marriage was Miss Wilhemina Ariail. She survives him.
Other survivors are two sons by his first marriage, Bobo and J.J. Burnett, Jr., both of Spartanburg; a brother, Christenbury L. Burnett of Columbia; two sisters, Mrs. John W. Alexander and Mrs. James B. Alexander of Woodruff; and a step-son, Charles Spears.
