"ROC" or "RICKY"

Sunrise: April 15, 1963
Sunset: December 3, 2012

RICHARD LEE HAMMIE (Roc) was born on April 15, 1963 in Henderson, North Carolina to Lue Helen Hicks-Hammie and the late Thomas Richard Hammie. He entered into eternal rest on December 3, 2012.

He was educated in the Newark School system and went on to graduate from Irvington High School in 1981. Later he worked at Polly Field for many years.

He met and married Marsha Ann Scott and from that union, they had three children, Yashica Scott, NyJuane Scott, and Apriah Hammie-Hawley.

Roc loved and cherished his family dearly with all of his heart. He was full of life, loveable, real funny and knew how to have a good time. He was a known DJ in the community and also known to be a jokester. He could make you smile even when you felt it wasn't an option. He was a wrestling phanatic. He never missed a beat. Every time wrestling was on, he was in front of the tv.

He'll be remembered for his unique array of hats and his large collection of jewelry. Everyone wanted a part of his ring collection.

Roc is preceded in death by his grandmothers, Alice Hicks and Princess Louise Hamme, his father, Thomas Richard Hammie, Jr.; and his brother James Thomas Hammie.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his mother Lue Helen Hicks Hammie; Sisters: Sherleen & Larquetta Hammie; brother, Trian Hammie; Children: Yashica Scott, NyJuane Scott and Apriah Hammie-Hawley; Grandchildren: Nashe Scott, Lyanah Hawley, Nyasia Hawley, Nyasia Pierre-Saint and Nymira Scott; Niece, Katina Preston and a host of nieces and nephews; a great nephew, Al-Wahjid Preston; Aunts, Annie Faines, Thelma Hamme, Artelia Hamme-Leach, Mattie Hamme-Hollins, Myra Hamme, Effie Hamme-Hargrove and Laura Hamme; Uncles, Emerson Hamme, Willie Hamme, Kelvin Hamme, Eddie T. Leach, Jr. and Barry Hargrove; along with a host of relatives and friends.

If only we knew the day would come and
there would be no you.
But God saw you getting tired and He
did what He thought best.
He put His arms around you and whispered
come home Ricky and rest.
It broke our hearts to loose you, but you
did not go alone,
For a part of us went with you the day
God called you home.

I miss you "Cuz". I miss our crazy times together. I am glad that you decided to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and now I know you are with him. You will always be in my heart.

Ricky your memory will always live on. You are surely missed. Our family chain has been broken again, but we look forward when it will be linked together again. Always love you...RIP
