Leonard Anderson, 92, of Grass Valley died Monday, Nov. 28, at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services. His remains will lie alongside his wife Wanda's in the Washington historical cemetary.

Mr. Anderson was born Jan. 26, 1913, in Jersey City, N.J., to Harry and Gertrude (Wertz) Anderson. He was the youngest of three children. He married Wanda Polonara on March 21, 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946, and during World War II was stationed on the islands of the South Pacific. He was discharged after the war with Japan ended and returned home to Scotch Plains, N.J. to raise his family with Wanda, at which time he returned to his job on the railroad, where he worked for 30 years until his retirement. Leonard and Wanda then moved to Sunnyvale, to be with their two sons who had moved there. They both enjoyed their retirement days and the company of their sons and grandchildren in California. During the early years of his retirement, he worked as a school bus driver for handicapped children, a night watchman, and a school crossing guard for the Cupertino School District. He enjoyed stamp collecting, antique oil lamps, and antique carpenter tools. He and his wife were a common sight at the flea markets and estate auctions in New Jersey and the Bay Area of California.

He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Gerald and Nancy Anderson; grandsons James and Michael Anderson; grandaughter, Heather Anderson; a great granddaughter; a great grandson; daughter in law, Debra; and several next generation cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Wanda, in 1994; son Robert in 2004; brother, Leroy; and sister Irene. He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Gerald and Nancy Anderson; grandsons James and Michael Anderson; grandaughter, Heather Anderson; a great granddaughter; a great grandson; daughter in law, Debra; and several next generation cousins.
