Birth: Nov. 23, 1918
Death: Jun. 25, 2008

June 25, 2008 Harris Funeral Home
Walhout, Ethel "Eddie" went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. She was born November 23, 1918 in rural Rothbury to Renn and Nellie (Folkema) Postma. She was a member of the New Era Christian Reformed Church and its Golden Hour Society. On December 3, 1943 she married Henry J. Walhout (1920 to 1995) of Muskegon who was serving in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. Ethel worked and took a nursing course at Pine Rest Christian Hospital until Henry's discharge when they made Muskegon their home and raised their family. Ethel volunteered at the Muskegon Christian Schools and also at the Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church. She began there with Henry's help, a 30 year period of secretarial work which continued later at the New Era Church. She also served much of this time in New Era's Coffee Break Ministry. Her family meant much to her and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially the Sunday afternoons on the farm. She enjoyed traveling and camping, gardening and her flowers, bird watching, hiking in the farm area, books, Bible studies, and games - especially word games. She is survived by her four children, Dick (Judy) Walhout, Norma (Ben) Wieringa, Barb Youngs, and Shari (Pete) Eilers; grandchildren, Kim Walhout, Matthew (Melissa) Wieringa, Kristi (Jeff) Schmidt, Nichole (Nathan) Veale, Christopher (Katie) Wieringa, Alicia (Ryan) Van Der Bill, Lindsey (Jason) Wagenmaker, Luke and Sashi Youngs, and Evan and Jonathan Eilers; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Abby and Levi Wieringa, Anna, Daniel and James Schmidt; and sisters, Grace (Len) Brink and Joyce (Gerald) Tuuk. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Lois; granddaughter, Katie; sisters, Rica and Claire Postma; and son-in-law, Rod Youngs. *New Era Cemetery.
