Son of George Dovel and Anna Peeksly. Married Dianna Shuler (10-07-1819 to 04-28-1922), daughter of George Shuler and lived near Ingham, VA. Four sons and five daughters: Tolitha J., George D., Isaac N., Susan E., Alonzo L., D. Rebecca., Julia A., Lovenia F., and A.B. Jr. He and his brother-in-law John Dofflemyer ran a saw mill on the Shenandoah River powered by a water wheel. He was deeded property by his father, George Dovel in 1838 and again in 1866. Adam's property lists most of his property as farming tools, horses, cattle, grain, etc. Adam and his father George are buried on this property in a private cemetery which is still owned by the family.
Dianna is buried in the St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery near Newport, VA with her daughter Lovenia. She lived to be almost 103 years old.
During the civil war, Union Forces burned Adam's barn. The Union also stole Adam's work horses when their horses and wagons got stuck in the mud.
