Janet Counts, affectionately known as "Jan" was born on July 26, 1949 to Conrad and Mary Herring in Mount Clemens, Michigan. She was the second of three children born to this union.
Janet accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor C. J. Clayborn.
Janet has always been an active member growing up in the church. She played the piano for the choir at Morning Star Baptist Church and Turner Chapel Baptist Church. She was educated in the Mount Clemens Public School system.
Janet was united in Holy Matrimony on January 17, 1970, to William Bruce Counts. To this union were born three children.
Janet united with Second Canaaan Missionary Baptist Church in 1974 under the leadership of the late Rev. David L. Kelley, Sr. She was a faithful member of our Gospel Chorus where she also served as President from 1985 - 1988. Until her death, she served as Vice President of our Mothers and Deaconess Ministry and Sunday School Teacher in our Youth Division ages 9-11. Janet completed her four year advance class in the Superintendent's Clinic of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc in June 2002. She retired from Chrysler Corporation as an Inventory Control Specialist on September 30, 2001 after 34 years of loyal service.
Janet remained committed to Christ, her family and church family, especially her Sunday School youth class. She was a very loving, giving, and caring person. She was stylish, outspoken and had a great sense of humor. Her hobbies included traveling, shopping and spending time at the family's cottage with her husband and grandchildren.
Janet received "rest for her labor" when she went home on Thursday, March 23, 2006. She leaves to celebrate her life, devoted husband: William Bruce; her children: Montisa (Rowland) Robert (Tonya) and Janel; her parents: Conrad and Mary Herring; seven grandchildren: Robin, Theia, Christina, William, Roschard and Morgan and Cydney; three brothers: Conrad, Rev. Paul Herring and Mark; two aunts: Lessie Sevier of Chicago and Christine Winfrey of Joliet; seven brothers-in-law; eight sisters-in-law; four god children, nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends.
