Lifelong Alaska resident Susie Liebenthal, 71, died suddenly Nov. 3 at her home in Anchor Point. A funeral was held at Transfiguration of Our Lord Russian Orthodox Church in Ninilchik. Archpriest Marcarius Targonsky officiated. A memorial service was also held at the church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Liebenthal was born May 29, 1923, in Ninilchik. She spent her entire life in the Ninilchik and Anchor Point areas where she and her husband, Edward, homesteaded. Her family said: "Susie was a devout and faithful member of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Russian Church in Ninilchik. She loved all seasons as she knew there was a time for each, but especially the spring and summer when she could begin work on her hundreds of outdoor flowers. She will be missed."
Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Edward of Anchor Point; sons, Jonathon Liebenthal of Ninilchik, Robert Cooper and Mel Cooper of Wasilla, and Eric Cooper of Anchor Point; daughter, Berniece Stamps of Anchor Point; granddaughters, Ramie Homann and Erin Nelsen of Anchorage, Mara Nelsen of Denver, and Tiffany Stonecipher of Ninilchik; grandson, Nathan Stonecipher of Ninilchik; sisters, Nadia Oskoloff of Kodiak, Fedora Encelewski of Anchorage, and Mae Demedoff of Ninilchik; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Cooper, son, Ruben Cooper, and daughter, Sylvia Liebenthal. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Transfiguration of Our Lord Russian Church, Box 53, Ninilchik 99639, for maintenance and upkeep. Arrangements were handled by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
