Albert "Al" Engler, 94, of St. Charles, Mo., formerly of Belleville, Ill., born July 2, 1916, in Belleville, Ill., died Monday, March 28, 2011, at Barnes Jewish St. Peters Hospital in St. Peters, Mo.

Mr. Engler was retired from the United States Air Force prior to which he also served in the United States Navy. Al started his truck driving career at a young age working for the family's ice and coal business. He was the former owner of Engler's Tavern in Belleville, Ill. Mr. Engler was a member of St. Clair Lodge 24 AF&AM in Belleville, Ill., Moose Lodge 1221 Swansea, Ill., and the Disabled American Veterans. Al enjoyed investing, following the stock market, and traveling. He loved road trip, always loving the journey as much as the destination.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ella, nee Meyer, Engler; four brothers, Andrew, Harry, Russell, and Herman Engler; a sister, Anna Mae Engler; and a son, Robert Engler.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia, nee Bafaro, Engler, whom he married on Sept. 13, 1971; two grandchildren, Robert Engler of Belleville, Ill., and Roger Engler of St. Louis, Mo.; a great-grandchild, Brittany Engler of Troy, Ill.; four nieces, Donna, Barbara, Theresa, and Rose; a sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Ken Brinkmeyer; as well as other relatives and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2011, with Masonic Services at 7 p.m. at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Friday, April 1, 2011 at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Ill. Interment will be Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
