She attended the Lexington Graded School and after completing the eighth grade, she enrolled in Jackson State College, where she completed her high school and college work, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She also did advance graduate work at Atlanta University.
She was a dedicated teacher. Her first teaching experience was in Sunflower County, and afterwards she served as a Jeanes Supervisor over the schools of Choctaw and Webster Counties.
She was always very active in her church, working with young people, the Missionary Society and Choir. For many years, she served as church pianist, assisting her mother (the late Winnie Crenshaw Marshall) and represented her church in local, state and national meetings. She was also State and National President of the Y.W.A.
Mrs. Cooper was elected Secretary of the Mississippi Association of Teachers in Colored Schools, and for several years served as a member of its Board of Directors.
On June 11, 1936, she was united in marriage to Mr. Bennye H. Cooper and this union was blessed with one son, Bennye H., Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Bennye H. Cooper, Sr.; a son, Bennye H. Cooper, Jr., of Kansas City, MO and one granddaughter Dierdre Lynette. She also leaves three sisters and three brothers to survive her loss. They are Mrs. Nannie M. Boston, Lillington, North Carolina; Mrs. Annie Bell Pendleton, Jackson, Miss.; Mrs. Naomi J. Carter, Chicago, Ill.; Luther J. Marshall, Jackson, Miss.; Frank Marshall, Chicago, Ill; Floyd Marshall, Chicago, Ill, and a host of relatives and friends.
