Former professional boxer James M. Hanson Sr., of Alexandria,Ky died Thursday at his home. He was 79.
A boxer during the Depression, he fought four fights,with three knockouts and a draw. His professional was "Bull of Montana" and his opponents included "Pretty Boy Floyd" and "Texas Red".
He was a World War II Army Veteran and later a carpenter in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati.
The Hanson's nominated Kenton County foster parents of the year, a few years ago. said his son James Hanson Jr. They raised six foster children and nine children of their own.
Twice the man of anyone i ever met, and he will be three times the man i could ever be, said his son.
Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife, Alice "Mickey" Stratton Hanson, five daughters, Marietta Cromwell of Lovington, New Mexico. Sheryl Class of Peach Grove, Darlynn Stricker of Highland Heights,Madonna Saner of Camp Springs, Sandra Hanson of Butler. Four son's James Eugene Hanson Smith of Claremore, Oklahoma,Charles Hanson of Lovington, New Mexico, James Hanson Jr. of Covington, Daniel Hanson, Alexandria. Twentyfive grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home,Grantslick. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grantslick
