John Bruschitzki was born Dec 22, 1889, in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, to parents Julius Bruschitzki, born in Germany (1856-1917) and Ida Suckau, born in Germany (1856-1936).

Note on various spellings - the German spelling of this surname is Bruschitzki, but was spelled by John years later on his World War I Draft Registration Card as Bruschitsky, on his Social Security records as Bruschitski, and on his memorial card it is spelled Brujitske.

John was the 4th child in a family of 8 children, all born in Detroit. His brothers and sisters were: William Henry Bruschitzki (1882-1950), Rudolph Herman Bruschitzki (1885-1949), Minnie Bruschitzki-Buckholz (1887-1962), Freida Bruschitzki-Matchko (1890-1977), Anna Bruschitzki-Lucas (1893-1945), Amelia Emily Bruschitzki-Witkowski/Witke (1896-1968), and Emma Augusta Bruschitzki-Topolewski/Topole (1897-1976).

As a young man, John first worked in a match factory in Detroit and then as a machinist in an auto factory.
On Jul 27, 1912 in Detroit, Michigan, John married Anna Christine Nastali, born in Michigan (1892-1974). Anna was a daughter of Francis Nastali (1853-1919) and Veronica Drozanowski/Druzan (1857-1942), both born in West Prussia.

John and Anna lived for a short time near John's parents on Linzee Street in Detroit before settling a little further away on Pembrooke Street. This couple had five children, all born in Detroit: Leonard Julius Bruschitzki/Bridges (1913-2002), Alice Cecelia Bruschitzki-Mitchell (1914-2006), Helen Eleanor Bruschitzki-McGlynn (1915-1998), Leona Ann Bruschitzki-Bradley-Jarvis (1917-1988), and Carolyn Grace Bruschitzki-Kirkwood (1919-2002).

John died on Oct 2, 1964, in Novi, Michigan, and is buried in Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia, Michigan. He is buried under the name John "Brujitske."
